Racing deal marks new country milestone

With a brand new centre opening and a sponsorship deal for one of the world’s most exciting sports, Regus aims to continue its winning streak

Regus has marked an important new milestone by signing a sponsorship deal that will see its name associated with one of the most exciting sports in the world.

Racing Porsches is John Schmidt’s passion, so when he teamed up with the world’s biggest provider of flexible workspaces to open the first Regus site in the Dominican Republic, it made sense that his team’s prized vehicles should now proudly display the company’s markings.

John’s company Megatron will be running the new site for Regus, licensing out the name and operating the site on the company’s behalf. His team – Momo Megatron Lechner Racing – takes part in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup which follows the F1 race calendar on the same circuits.

Although driven by a pro driver during the race itself, John likes to test his mettle on the amateur tracks, and has even been known to take his customers for a spin.

“Driving a Porsche GT3 Cup is an absolutely thrilling experience,” he said.

“Racing is a huge passion of mine, but we wouldn’t be doing it at this level if it didn’t make good business sense.

“The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup has supported the FIA Formula One World Championship since 1993. We run ten races around the world which are broadcast live in 100 countries.”

As part of the new deal, the car and race suit of Dylan Pereira – the team’s star up-and-coming driver from Luxembourg – will feature Regus logos, helping to boost its brand recognition both nationally and internationally.

“When he’s on the podium lifting that trophy, and he gets the live head shot, that image starts a journey that will end weeks, months and even years later. Since Regus is a new brand for us in our first market in the Dominican Republic, it’s an easy win for us.”

Even before Pereira has had a chance to pop a Champagne cork though, Regus and its prospective clients already have a reason to celebrate.

Its first centre on the island, Roble Corporate Centre in Santo Domingo, is scheduled to open in June, making the island nation the 118th country to be added to Regus’ proud roster. John says there are plans afoot for further expansion on the island too.

John said: “Regarding the centre itself, it’s state of the art and will set the bar high for any of our competitors, compelling many business owners to throw their existing office keys right on the table.

“The centre is located in Roble Corporate Centre, which is the most technologically advanced building in the country. We also share the property with the new Five Star Inter-Continental Hotel, so you actually have a resort-like experience while you visit or work in the centre.

“I don’t want to give away too many secrets but I will tell you that we have all the new IWG bells and whistles in place!”

Regus’ Global Corporate Development Director Andrzej Mrozek-Folkierski is equally optimistic and said there’s already been interest from major companies.

He said: “There’s a lot of interest we’re having already from corporates, which demonstrates the demand for the space in new countries. We want to be everywhere our customers need us to be.

“It’s really good that we’re working in this country and we’re hoping the franchise partner will be opening more in the next few years. This is an expansion on our Caribbean presence.

“The centres in the region are all performing well. We obviously get a lot of interest from big companies but then what we often find is these big companies come in, but then all the local companies start to realise the benefits too. It’ll be interesting when we open how that client base develops.”

On the racing deal too he’s equally optimistic of a winning result.

“Its’ an exciting partnership, we’ve got a competitive business and competitive racing so it’s a good match. We have got a presence in most of the companies they’ll be touring in too.”
